Bhagavad Gita 10.14
सर्वमेतदृतं मन्ये यन्मां वदसि केशव | न हि ते भगवन्व्यक्तिं विदुर्देवा न दानवाः ||
sarvam etad ṛtaṁ manye yan māṁ vadasi keśava | na hi te bhagavan vyaktiṁ vidur devā na dānavāḥ ||
Translation
All that you tell me, O Keśava, I take as true. Neither gods nor demons, O blessed one, know your manifestation.
Reflection
What can you take as true without claiming to fully understand it?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Ten
Arjuna affirms his belief and admits the limit. All that Krishna has said he takes as true. And he adds the careful concession that has already appeared in the chapter from the other side. Neither the gods nor the demons know His vyakti, His manifestation. The student is not pretending to have arrived at a fuller knowledge than the highest beings. He is saying that he believes the speaker because he has reason to, and that he understands the manifestation cannot be exhaustively grasped from inside the order it produces. Manye, I take it as so, is the right word for this stage. Not I know in the full sense, but I take it as the truth I will now act on. The verse will set up his coming request.
