Bhagavad Gita 10.2
न मे विदुः सुरगणाः प्रभवं न महर्षयः | अहमादिर्हि देवानां महर्षीणां च सर्वशः ||
na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ prabhavaṁ na maharṣayaḥ | aham ādir hi devānāṁ maharṣīṇāṁ ca sarvaśaḥ ||
Translation
Neither the hosts of gods nor the great seers know my origin, for I am the source of the gods and the great seers, in every way.
Reflection
Which of the six descriptions of this knowledge lands hardest for you today?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Ten
The first claim is about the limit of knowing. Even the highest beings inside the cosmos cannot trace Krishna's origin. The hosts of gods and the great seers stand at the top of the visible order and they still stand inside it. The source cannot be seen by what it sources. Krishna names the reason. He is the beginning of those very gods and seers in every direction. The verse closes a door before opening another one. The kind of knowing that maps things from inside the system cannot reach Him. The teaching that follows will not be that kind of knowing. It will be the recognition of His traces in particular forms, given to one who is already delighted to receive.
