Bhagavad Gita 12.18
समः शत्रौ च मित्रे च तथा मानापमानयोः | शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु समः सङ्गविवर्जितः ||
samaḥ śatrau ca mitre ca tathā mānāpamānayoḥ | śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkheṣu samaḥ saṅga-vivarjitaḥ ||
Translation
Equal to friend and foe, the same in honour and disgrace, the same in cold and heat, in pleasure and pain, free from attachment.

Where does your disposition still change with the temperature of the day?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Twelve
The samah, the same one, returns. Equal toward enemy and friend. Equal in honour and dishonour. Equal in cold and heat, in pleasure and pain. Sanga-vivarjitah, free from attachment. The catalogue of equanimities is wide. Personal relationships, social standing, bodily comfort, emotional weather. The devotee has the same disposition through all of them. The verse does not say he does not register the difference between friend and foe. It says his disposition does not change with the difference. The reader who has been with the Gita since chapter two recognizes this as the same description of the sthita-prajna that started the teaching. The chapter is closing the circle. The qualities of the perfected devotee are the same qualities of the steady-wisdom person of chapter two.
