Chapter 12Verse 6 of 20

Bhagavad Gita 12.6

ये तु सर्वाणि कर्माणि मयि संन्यस्य मत्पराः | अनन्येनैव योगेन मां ध्यायन्त उपासते ||

ye tu sarvāṇi karmāṇi mayi sannyasya mat-parāḥ | ananyenaiva yogena māṁ dhyāyanta upāsate ||

Translation

But those who, dedicating all actions to me, intent on me, contemplate me by undivided yoga, with their minds fixed on me only.

The alternative path is laid out concretely. Three movements. Sarvani karmani mayi sannyasya, surrendering all actions to me. Mat-parah, intent on me, holding me as supreme. Ananyena yogena mam dhyayanta upasate, contemplating and worshipping me by undivided yoga. The combination is karma surrender plus single-pointed contemplation. The actions of life are not stopped. They are placed in Krishna. The mind is not driven into the formless. It is rested on a single addressee. Ananyena, without other, undivided. The same word that closed chapter eleven returns here as the technical mark of the bhakti path. The next verse will name what Krishna does for those who walk this way, and it will name it quickly.

Reflection

Where could you place the action you are about to do, before you do it?
