Chapter 14Verse 14 of 27

Bhagavad Gita 14.14

यदा सत्त्वे प्रवृद्धे तु प्रलयं याति देहभृत् । तदोत्तमविदां लोकानमलान्प्रतिपद्यते ॥ १४ ॥

yadā sattve pravṛddhe tu pralayaṁ yāti deha-bhṛt | tadottama-vidāṁ lokān amalān pratipadyate ||14||

Translation

When the embodied one goes to dissolution while sattva is increased, then he reaches the spotless worlds of the highest knowers.

The chapter now extends the diagnostic into the moment of death. The dominant guna at the end colors what comes next. A death in sattva, the mind clear and luminous at the close, lands the dehin in the amala worlds of those who have known the highest. It is not the same as liberation; the seeker is still in worlds, still placed by gunas. But it is a kinder placement, a better neighborhood for further work. The verse encourages the cultivation of sattva not because sattva is final but because it leaves a cleaner trajectory at the moment when the choice is no longer available.

Reflection

If you were to die in your current mood, what kind of next placement would that suggest?
