Bhagavad Gita 14.19
नान्यं गुणेभ्यः कर्तारं यदा द्रष्टानुपश्यति । गुणेभ्यश्च परं वेत्ति मद्भावं सोऽधिगच्छति ॥ १९ ॥
nānyaṁ guṇebhyaḥ kartāraṁ yadā draṣṭānupaśyati | guṇebhyaś ca paraṁ vetti mad-bhāvaṁ so 'dhigacchati ||19||
Translation
When the seer perceives no agent other than the gunas, and knows that which is beyond the gunas, he attains my being.
Reflection
Can you recall a moment when you noticed the gunas acting, and you were not one of them?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Fourteen
The pivot verse. Two recognitions are paired. First, that all action is done by the gunas, not by some separate agent inside me; the gunas of prakriti act on the gunas of prakriti. Second, that the witness who sees this is itself beyond the gunas. When both clicks happen in the same look, the seer attains mad-bhava, Krishna's own being. This is the actual exit door of the chapter. Cultivating sattva is preliminary; the door is in this double recognition. Once a seeker stops calling the gunas his and stops mistaking the witness for one of them, the binding loosens whether sattva is up or down.
