Chapter 14Verse 26 of 27

Bhagavad Gita 14.26

मां च योऽव्यभिचारेण भक्तियोगेन सेवते । स गुणान्समतीत्यैतान्ब्रह्मभूयाय कल्पते ॥ २६ ॥

māṁ ca yo 'vyabhicāreṇa bhakti-yogena sevate | sa guṇān samatītyaitān brahma-bhūyāya kalpate ||26||

Translation

And he who serves me with unwavering yoga of devotion, transcending these gunas, becomes fit to become Brahman.

Now the method. Avyabhichara, unswerving; bhakti-yoga, the disciplined service of love. The verse is gentle but direct. The pilgrim does not have to manufacture the equalities of the previous verses from scratch. By holding to Krishna with steady devotion, the equalities arrive as a byproduct. Service that does not waver, no matter the guna of the day, slowly carries the server across the gunas themselves. Brahma-bhuyaya kalpate, becomes fit to become Brahman. He is not Brahman yet; he is fit to become. The fitness is the work bhakti has been doing under the surface.

Reflection

What unwavering practice could you stay with regardless of the guna of the day?
