Chapter 15Verse 12 of 20

Bhagavad Gita 15.12

यदादित्यगतं तेजो जगद्भासयतेऽखिलम् । यच्चन्द्रमसि यच्चाग्नौ तत्तेजो विद्धि मामकम् ॥

yad āditya-gataṁ tejo jagad bhāsayate 'khilam | yac candramasi yac cāgnau tat tejo viddhi māmakam ||

Translation

The brilliance gone to the sun that lights up all the world, what is in the moon and what is in fire, know that brilliance as mine.

Verse six said no luminary reaches that supreme abode. This one reverses the lens. Light visibly running in every luminary is borrowed from there. Sun's blaze, moon's silver, fire's orange flicker all draw from one cistern. Krishna says: viddhi mamakam, know it as mine. Devotion shifts a degree when sunrise is read as a postcard from the source. Beginner practice does not require ritual. Stand outside, notice any light source nearby, and let the verse run as a single line of thought once. Light arrives. Light is on loan. Loan has a name. Day becomes slightly more like darshan.

Reflection

What light around me now becomes darshan if read as on loan?
