Bhagavad Gita 16.13
इदमद्य मया लब्धमिमं प्राप्स्ये मनोरथम् । इदमस्तीदमपि मे भविष्यति पुनर्धनम् ॥
idam adya mayā labdham imaṁ prāpsye manoratham idam astīdam api me bhaviṣyati punar dhanam
Translation
"This today I have gained; this longing I shall fulfill; this wealth is mine and this also shall be mine hereafter."

Krishna shifts mode here. From description to direct quotation. Listen to the inner voice of the asura, in their own words. This today I gained. This longing I will fulfill. This wealth is already mine, and that wealth too will be mine in time. The voice is breathless. The verbs stack in the future without rest. Note what is missing: no thanks, no wonder, no acknowledgement of source. Only acquisition, accomplished and forecast. The quotation device is doing teaching work. Reading the asuri portrait as third-person description lets the seeker keep distance. Hearing it as first-person voice forces recognition. Have I spoken these words today? The verse is asking, not accusing.
