Bhagavad Gita 16.15
आढ्योऽभिजनवानस्मि कोऽन्योऽस्ति सदृशो मया । यक्ष्ये दास्यामि मोदिष्य इत्यज्ञानविमोहिताः ॥
āḍhyo 'bhijanavān asmi ko 'nyo 'sti sadṛśo mayā yakṣye dāsyāmi modiṣya ity ajñāna-vimohitāḥ
Translation
"I am wealthy and well-born. Who else is equal to me? I shall sacrifice; I shall give alms; I shall rejoice." Thus deluded by ignorance.
Reflection
Where might you currently believe a flattering story about yourself that an honest friend would gently correct?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Sixteen
The voice grows further. I am wealthy, I am well-born, who else compares? Even the yajna and the dana enter the speech, but as performance. Yakshye dasyami modishye: I will sacrifice, I will give, I will rejoice. The future verbs again. Iti ajnana-vimohitah: thus deluded by ignorance. Krishna pauses to name the engine. This is not malice in its purest form. It is delusion that wears the shape of confidence. The asura believes their own performance. They are not lying to others first. They are lying to self first and to others second. That is what makes the pattern resistant to correction. The asura cannot see the asura within. Practice gives the seeker a second pair of eyes.
