Bhagavad Gita 4.11
ये यथा मां प्रपद्यन्ते तांस्तथैव भजाम्यहम् । मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ॥
ye yathā māṃ prapadyante tāṃs tathaiva bhajāmy aham | mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ ||
Translation
In whatever way men approach me, in that very way do I meet them; for the path I tread is followed by men everywhere, O son of Pritha.
Reflection
What posture have you been taking toward the work that you have been receiving back in kind?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Four
Ye yathā, tāṃs tathā. As they approach, so I receive. The verse is grammatical reciprocity made theology. There is no posture toward the lord that does not get answered in its own form. The fearful are met as fear is met. The fierce are met fiercely. The trusting are met as trust is met. Mama vartma anuvartante, my road they walk. Sarvaśaḥ, in all ways. Shankara is careful here: the verse is not saying all paths are equal in outcome. It is saying all sincere paths are answered. The answer matches the asking.
