Bhagavad Gita 6.4
यदा हि नेन्द्रियार्थेषु न कर्मस्वनुषज्जते | सर्वसङ्कल्पसंन्यासी योगारूढस्तदोच्यते ||
yadā hi nendriyārtheṣu na karmasv anuṣajjate | sarva-saṅkalpa-sannyāsī yogārūḍhas tadocyate ||
Translation
When one attaches oneself neither to objects of sense nor to actions, renouncing all fancies, then he is said to have ascended to devotion.
Reflection
Where in your day did you stop leaning forward without anyone outside noticing the change?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Six
Here is the test for whether the climb is done. The senses still touch their objects. The hands still do their work. Nothing has been physically removed from the field. What is gone is the leaning in. The eye no longer pulls toward what it sees. The body no longer braces for what the action will pay. The little plans, the saṅkalpas, are not running underneath. When that lean is gone, the man is said to have arrived. The marker is internal. Anyone watching from outside would see only the same person eating, working, sleeping.
