Bhagavad Gita 7.12
ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये | मत्त एवेति तान्विद्धि न त्वहं तेषु ते मयि ||
ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasās tāmasāś ca ye | matta eveti tān viddhi na tv ahaṁ teṣu te mayi ||
Translation
And those forms of beings which are of the quality of goodness, those of passion, and those of darkness, know them all to proceed from me alone; I am not in them, but they in me.
Reflection
What does it shift to hold the day as arising in something larger than itself?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Seven
He closes the list with a wider sweep. Whatever exists in the three modes, sattva, rajas, tamas, comes from Him. But He is not in them. They are in Him. The reversal is small in words and large in effect. The world is not Him scattered into pieces. The world arises in Him, like waves arising in an ocean. He does not become the wave. The wave is in Him without making Him into itself. This protects against two errors. One, that He is absent. He is not. Two, that He is reduced to what He produces. He is not that either. Source and container, not contained.
