Bhagavad Gita 7.3
मनुष्याणां सहस्रेषु कश्चिद्यतति सिद्धये | यततामपि सिद्धानां कश्चिन्मां वेत्ति तत्त्वतः ||
manuṣyāṇāṁ sahasreṣu kaścid yatati siddhaye | yatatām api siddhānāṁ kaścin māṁ vetti tattvataḥ ||
Translation
Among thousands of men, only some try for perfection; of those who try and reach perfection, only some know me in truth.
Reflection
Where in your life have you let the difficulty of a path stop you from beginning it?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Seven
Krishna names the funnel without softening it. Thousands of men, only some try. Of those who try and arrive, only some come to know Him in truth. Two narrowings, stacked. The first weeds out everyone who never picks up the thread at all. The second weeds out most of those who do. This is not pessimism. It is calibration. He is telling Arjuna at the outset of this chapter that the knowing he is offering is rare, and that to hold it in the hand at the end of a lifetime is rarer still. The seeker hearing this is meant to feel both the cost and the dignity of the path he is on.
