Bhagavad Gita 10.17

कथं विद्यामहं योगिंस्त्वां सदा परिचिन्तयन् | केषु केषु च भावेषु चिन्त्योऽसि भगवन्मया ||

kathaṁ vidyām ahaṁ yogiṁs tvāṁ sadā paricintayan | keṣu keṣu ca bhāveṣu cintyo'si bhagavan mayā ||

Translation

O master of yoga, how shall I know you by ceaseless contemplation? In what forms of being, O blessed one, are you to be thought of by me?

The practical question. How is Arjuna to know Krishna through continuous contemplation, and in what particular forms is he to think of Him. The verse turns the abstract teaching into something a person can practice tomorrow morning. Sada paricintayan, by ceaseless contemplation, names the form of the practice. Keshu keshu cha bhaveshu, in what particular forms of being, names what the catalogue will give him. The request is honest. He is not asking to have his curiosity satisfied. He is asking for the contact-points his mind will need so that the contemplation can stay in motion through ordinary days. The next verses will give exactly that, a list of forms in which the source can be remembered when the mind would otherwise drift.
