Bhagavad Gita 10.22
वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः | इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ||
vedānāṁ sāma-vedo'smi devānām asmi vāsavaḥ | indriyāṇāṁ manaś cāsmi bhūtānām asmi cetanā ||
Translation
Among the Vedas I am the Sāma. Among the gods I am Vāsava. Among the senses I am the mind. Among beings I am consciousness.

Four more. Sama-Veda among the Vedas, Indra among the gods, the mind among the senses, consciousness among living beings. The placement is careful. Sama-Veda is the sung Veda, the chief of the four for those whose recognition runs through musical form. Indra is the chief of the visible gods. The mind is the inner sense that coordinates the others. Cetana, consciousness, is the chief among beings. The last item slips the catalogue back inward. Among the rest of the list's outward forms a recurrent inward one appears. Consciousness itself is named as a vibhuti, not as a vague property of beings but as the source's local trace in each. The verse rewards the listener who is willing to follow the same pointer turning between inside and outside without losing track of either.
