Chapter 12Verse 10 of 20

Bhagavad Gita 12.10

अभ्यासेऽप्यसमर्थोऽसि मत्कर्मपरमो भव | मदर्थमपि कर्माणि कुर्वन्सिद्धिमवाप्स्यसि ||

abhyāse'py asamartho'si mat-karma-paramo bhava | mad-artham api karmāṇi kurvan siddhim avāpsyasi ||

Translation

If you are incapable even of practice, be intent on action for my sake. Performing actions for my sake too, you will attain perfection.

The ladder steps down again. If you cannot even sustain practice, mat-karma-paramah bhava, become one for whom my work is supreme. Mad-artham api karmani kurvan, performing actions for my sake. Siddhim avapsyasi, you will attain perfection. The verse names a second backup path. Even without seated practice, the practitioner can orient daily action toward Krishna. The work of the day becomes the practice. The orientation replaces the technique. The promise siddhim avapsyasi is full. There is no hierarchy of arrival being suggested. The hierarchy is in the inner difficulty, not in the result. The chapter is being generous with the practitioner who has only the rough hour, no time for sitting, no settled mind for contemplation.

Reflection

Which action in your day could become your practice if you offered it differently?
