Bhagavad Gita 3.23
यदि ह्यहं न वर्तेयं जातु कर्मण्यतन्द्रितः । मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ॥
yadi hy ahaṃ na varteyaṃ jātu karmaṇy atandritaḥ | mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ ||
Translation
For should I, at any time, not engage in action, without relaxing, men would, O son of Pritha, follow my path in every way.

What small slack in your work today is teaching someone that slack is the rule?

Atandrita, without slacking. The qualifier is not decorative. Krishna is not just acting; he is acting fully alert. If he slacked even once, men would follow that. The verse turns the yad yad ācarati of 3.21 onto Krishna himself. He has the same problem the great man has: every move becomes example. Mama vartmānuvartante, they walk my road. The teacher is showing the student that the public weight of conduct binds the highest most heavily, not least.
