Bhagavad Gita 9.29
समोऽहं सर्वभूतेषु न मे द्वेष्योऽस्ति न प्रियः | ये भजन्ति तु मां भक्त्या मयि ते तेषु चाप्यहम् ||
samo'haṁ sarva-bhūteṣu na me dveṣyo'sti na priyaḥ | ye bhajanti tu māṁ bhaktyā mayi te teṣu cāpy aham ||
Translation
I am equal in all beings. None is hateful to me and none is dear. But those who worship me with devotion are in me, and I also in them.

What in you is paved over, refusing the same sun?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Nine
A delicate verse. Krishna is equal in all beings. He has no favourites and no enemies. And yet those who worship Him with devotion stand in Him, and He in them. The two halves are not in contradiction. The sun shines equally on all fields. The fields that have been ploughed and watered receive that same shining as growth. The fields that are paved receive it as glare. The change is on the receiving end, not on the source. Krishna's equality is not indifference. It is the same offering made to everyone. What devotion does is open the channel so that the offering, already present, can be received. The presence of the devotee inside Krishna and Krishna inside the devotee follows from that opening.
