Bhagavad Gita 18.67
Translation
This should never be told to one without austerity, without devotion, without willingness to listen, or to one who detests me.
Reflection
What in you is not yet ready to receive this teaching, and what would prepare it?
Read this verse in its chapter: Chapter Eighteen
A protective filter on the teaching. Four categories of person to whom this should not be transmitted. Na atapaskaya, the one without austerity, no inward discipline established. Na abhaktaya, the one without devotion, no orientation of the heart. Na ashushrushave, the one unwilling to serve and hear, the closed-eared. Na cha mam yo abhyasuyati, the one who already despises Krishna. The teaching is not for unprepared ground, not because it is secret like a club code, but because it cannot land where the inner conditions for landing are absent. It will be misused, distorted, or simply wasted. The same instruction in Sanskrit teaching tradition for centuries, given to those who can carry it.
